Cupping Therapy

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping Therapy pulls stagnation out of the tissues from old injuries and toxins and brings them to the surface level.  By creating negative pressure above the surface of the tissue, the decrease in atmospheric pressure allows the tissues below to be lifted upwards-increasing the space in underlying structures, loosening areas of adhesion and restriction.

Contracted, congested tissue structures will soften quickly, reducing muscles aches and activating the secretion of synovial fluids to release joint stiffness. Cupping creates localized expansion of tissue, producing a vasodilation reaction-drawing blood flow to areas of ischemic pain, raising skin temperature, promoting metabolism within the skin tissue for better functioning of sweat and sebaceous glands, flushing capillary beds, draining stagnant blood, toxins, and wastes and re-supplying vital nutrients.

What are the benefits of Cupping Therapy?

Because Cupping Therapy has a beneficial effect on the skin, muscles, circulatory and lymphatic system, nervous system, digestive system and joints, it can help with the following conditions:

  • Rotator Cuff Injuries and Frozen Shoulder Syndrome
  • TMJ Disorders
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Sinus Compaction
  • Sciatica and IT Band Issues
  • Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
  • Diabetes
  • Insomnia
  • Lung Congestion
  • Colon Disorders
  • Sports Injuries
  • Poor Circulation
  • Chronic Headaches and Migraines
  • Cellulite
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Neuralgia
  • Fatigue
  • High Blood Pressure

When used in a treatment series, the results are cumulative.  Yet even in a single treatment, a long-term physical issue may be resolved!

What are the discolorations that sometimes occur during treatments?

The most common and unfortunate misconception concerning Cupping is the misinterpretation of the marks sometimes resulting from the treatment.  These Discolorations are not Bruises.

When injuries occur deep within the muscle, bleeding often occurs causing deep bruises.  There will also be edema in the area involving the coagulation of sticky proteins.  The combining presence of these elements usually results in congestion or stagnation of circulation in the area of injury-resulting in pain, dysfunction, and chronic conditions.  These areas receive insufficient oxygen to the cells, and there is a build-up of sluggish waste products.  The Chinese call this Blood Poison.  Symptoms include pain and decreased range of motion.

Cupping pulls this congestion and stagnation to the surface, resulting in the discolorations.  The marks often fade within a few hours up to two weeks, depending on the amount of toxicity and stagnation of the patient's condition. As treatments accumulate, the marks will occur less and less.  This is a direct result of stagnation, toxins, old cellular debris and other wastes being expelled from the body.
